Relax
Just Relax
Below is a set of Livin' South recommendations for the relaxing venues in Star Valley. While this is not an exhaustive list, it should give you some ideas for the incredibly relaxing experiences that are available in Star Valley. Bring your own chair and take some time to unwind and leave the stresses of life behind!
Caesar's Hotel
Star Valley is home to the world-class hotel at Caesar's Southern Indiana. Take some time to relax and get away in style. Take a drive along River Road and enjoy the spectacular views, take a day to golf at Chariot's Run golf course in Elizabeth, and dine at Gordon Ramsay Steak. |
The Overlook Restaurant
The Overlook Restaurant has delicious food, a wine tasting room, and delicious desserts. But at the center of its charm is the incredible views over the Ohio River and into Kentucky. Take some time to just chill on the deck or at one of the picnic tables and watch barges navigate the river. The views are just spectacular, and all your stress will melt away! |
Huber Winery Lake
Huber Winery has so much to offer with its tours, wine tasting, music on the veranda, and food at Starlight Cafe. Or you can visit Starlight Distillery for Bourbon, Rye, and other spirits. And after a day of fun, take some time to relax and sit by one of the peaceful country lakes on the grounds. |
Lanthier Winery
Lanthier Winery in Madison has a European-type appeal with a beautiful garden and quaint places in the winery to enjoy wine tasting. It's a great place to unwind. Then you might enjoy the views of the Ohio River which is just a block away from the winery or visit some of the shops and restaurants in downtown Madison. |
Charlestown Landing Boat Ramp
On the far end of Charlestown State Park, you will find the Charlestown Landing Boat Ramp. There is ample parking at the boat ramp. The site has two Riverview Overlook Piers, and the view of the river and Kentucky from these piers is just amazing. It is well worth the trip to relax on the pier or at the nearby picnic area. |
Salem Public Square
Salem stems from a Hebrew word meaning "Peace." When you visit the public square you experience a laid back, peaceful culture where people still greet strangers with a hello, and southern charm is alive and well. Enjoy the incredible old-world architecture of the courthouse on the square. Take some time to visit the quaint shops, the Bourbon Lounge, or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the public square restaurants. |
Downtown Leavenworth
Visit downtown Leavenworth and take a trip back in time. Stephenson's General Store, the Rock Shop, and O.u.r. antique store are like hidden gems that take you back to a day when people walked across echoing wooden floors and sat down in the back of the general store to drink a soda or a milk shake. O.u.r. antique store takes you back to a time when the pace of life was slower, and times were simple. After your visit take a drive on East Indian Hollow Road or South Fredonia Road and enjoy the breathtaking views. |
Fire Tower Shelter House
The Fire Tower Shelter House in Clark State Forest is tucked away in a remote peak inside the forest. You will likely need a map or assistance to find it, but when you get there, the views across Indiana and Kentucky are absolutely breathtaking. If you have a group, you can rent the shelter house all day or you can drive up one evening and enjoy watching the sun set over the valley below. |
Borden Community Park
Borden Community Park is one of the most beautiful parks in southern Indiana. The park sits in a valley surrounded by beautiful hills. The valley is particularly striking in Autumn. The park is a great place to sit and relax. You can also take a relaxing walk on one of the paved walking paths. |
Falls of Ohio State Park
Visit the Falls of Ohio State Park and sit and listen to the roar of the falls of the Ohio. The roar of the water has a very calming effect on the mind. You can also explore the 390-million-year-old bed of fossils from the Devonian era. And if history is relaxing to you, tour the Interpretive Center and learn about the layers of pre-history you find in this region. In the Spring and Fall in particular the grounds are beautiful and it is an awesome place just to sit and relax. |
Potter Lake
Most people in southern Indiana and surrounding areas have probably never heard of Potter Lake. That's likely for good reason, because for most people it requires a long drive into the country and then a short hike just to reach it. But when you see it, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in our region. Aside from the occasional fisherman, the lake is not heavily visited, so it's a great place to get alone with nature. Bring a chair and just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the most stunning natural features of Star Valley. |
Big Spring Nature Preserve
Big Spring Nature Preserve (Map) adjoins Big Spring Church of Christ. You can park in the church parking lot and enter the nature preserve from there. The hill leading to the spring is a bit steep and challenging, but if you are physically able to navigate the terrain, at the base of the hill you will find Big Spring. The spring is a large pool of crystal-clear water. It is one of the most beautiful and relaxing settings you will ever experience. |
